Yeah movies just saw The Whale. Disgusting waste of film. It won an award too. I think the deciders are trying to push sad sentiment. There must have been better movies in the line up? I put this BF star film in the same category as Lobster, Tar, and that one where he cuts his fingers off. All dark and lifeless. Foreign films know how to present these themes well 😊 Also music way to overpowering in current film and TV
Recently watched Triangle of Sadness and All Quiet on the Western Front. No reason to bother with "The Whale" :) -- I agree about movie music -- everything shock & awe
The cucumber tip was interesting as I often buy them but don't get around to eating them in time, usually because I forget I have them! See you Tuesday.
Haven't thrown one away for a long time as a result. When I read the 40% statistic it made me think it through and pay attention. Clear containers make things better also. Hopefully two more days of melt between now and then.
One of the things that caused chagrin for me recently was a note from our compost service that you cannot put dryer lint in the compost bin. They take a LOT of things, including meat bones and such (we are not vegetarian) and are willing to experiment with corn-based plastics and other materials labeled compostable, but pointed out that most clothing now is made with some kind of microplastic, and of course that's in the lint. I hadn't thought of that and had been putting it in the compost. Lesson learned.
For as long as I can remember, we saved our dryer lint. Dipping it in petroleum jelly made for being a hero each time we lit a fire in the firepit. Corn-based plastics are an interesting matter. They "cost" more than petroleum-based plastics but only BECAUSE we do not price carbon.
Very funny...I have a Substack I have read since before I was writing. It has ~200K readers so SUPER-POPULAR. Each time it publishes, at least one person says "best ever" haha -- noticing that is what inspired my 3 minute riff.
I am glad you liked it Jillian and I don't care why! BTW your post today was GREAT. It reminded me to try to use my note taker more. They sure make life easier and I imagine a ton of great ideas ran through my head (and some stinkers) over the first 30+ years that are lost forever.
My 5am publish came and went today! So funny, I was up early but had a bunch of things to take care of this morning. Came back in the mid-morning and checked up on Substack...it had been scheduled for 21-FEB instead (tomorrow). Oh well that is okay. Hope you all enjoy it.!

You might have meant this for a different post possibly? I just read the overview of "The Whale" and not sure I would watch it either though.
Yeah they left a lot on the table there. I have to read when I can Mark. Enjoy your work. Music, movie themes great.

I've truly enjoyed reading this post Mark. Thank you for sharing it.
That is very kind Bruno. I hope you continue to enjoy them as much as I do writing them.

I love your post, Mark. So glad I have been introduced to your writing. YAY!
(Sorry, I don't have anything particular observations or insights. Just wanted to give my appreciation)
I'm so glad you like it. Sometimes we don't quite know why we like something, we just do. Thanks
This is among my favorites of your posts. Or is that recency bias?
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
