Less Email Notice :: I think most everyone in this world would like less email. I have decided after taking advantage of some resources on Substack for improving your writing and engaging with readers to back off on my posts. I hope this means the QUALITY IMPROVES. I have decided to change from 7X/Week to 4X/Week. I will post on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday STARTING tomorrow. I note that one of the top reasons people generally unsubscribe is TOO MANY EMAILS so here is my contribution to lessening that problem. I think I will prepare just as much but hopefully, the writing will be better and more on point. Have a great day and I hope you enjoy the ABSENCE of email from me on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Make good use of the extra 3-5 minutes 3X per week which might equate to one more set of arm curls. I genuinely appreciate each of you taking the time to read occasionally or regularly.
One of my friends, C writes a nightly blog and I find it helpful to know there is someone else out there trying to do this nightly. While he has been doing this for YEARS, my effort thus far is modest. This post is a bit of a split personality as I LOVE that I am writing BUT there are times when I consider changing it up and perhaps writing less frequently. My friend happens to write about daily life while varying his themes. Sometimes he will recount what and where he may have eaten that day. Invariably, I find myself getting hungry when I read about certain things especially if there is a photo. Tonight I happened to eat well (coloring inside the lines) but what he happened to write about just made me feel a bit hungry.
I am quite sure that my daily food habits might not be universally appealing (since there are a lot of things I don’t eat) so I defer from that as a topic. I get some comments on my writing and it feels great that it reminds people of something. It is good to make some sort of connection. One of my friends, M is a music buff and has a take on many things. I would imagine if he saved all of his concert tickets over the years, he might need a duffel bag to store them in. Recently he shared his take on a couple of bands inspired by music choices in my post. That in turn led me to take in a bit of music from a band I USED TO ENJOY A LOT after being introduced to it so many years ago. My friend M made a particular reference that reminded me of what I liked about the band so much in the first place! This is exactly why our lives are better if we have varied circles of friends.
The coupling of thoughts of food I rarely eat anymore but still enjoy with music I enjoyed as a younger man became the “meat” of tonight’s post. I think that many of us find the means to express and feel our individuality by the music we love and the food we enjoy. So I encourage all of you to take a moment after reading this post to ponder a food, even if you haven’t had it in a while that you enjoy. If somehow, you draw a blank, do the same exercise with music. I believe that in either case, you will come to a place of great enjoyment in your mind as I have while effortlessly writing this simple post. Even as I write this, my mouth has begun to water (like Homer) as I ponder what I am thinking of. I expect the very same thing will happen for you if you do the same. The writing is coming easy as the music is playing in the background.
If it ends up working, please drop a comment about your food or music inspiration. You may just make someone else’s mouth water or bring a smile to someone’s face with music.
For me, a friend reminded me of Little Feat, which in turn reminded me of my days living in the southeast and my affinity for southern fried chicken with all the “fixins”. So without further adieu, here is tonight’s music and the inspiration of the menu of the closest thing to great southern fried chicken I know of in the Twin Cities.
My music aficionado friend reminded me that you can hear some great slide guitar compliments of Lowell George while enjoying this band. Have a great night. I think if you take my advice, not many things warm the soul like good music or comfort food. If you live outside of my little bubble in Minnesota, let us know the restaurant location that makes your mouth water. Hope to see you all tomorrow.
Before I sign off for the evening, I want to acknowledge that tomorrow is Veteran’s Day. All of us make our way through this world and make our mark in different ways. I want to thank all of the veterans for their service. It is THEIR service that makes all the pitched statements of glorification POSSIBLE by ALL the rest of us about how much we love and appreciate this country. This wonderful, complex, and fulfilling world has depended for many generations on the service and sacrifice of Americans. In a country of over 300M, only a small percentage of men and women volunteer for this service accepting all of the challenges. Their reasons and motivations vary but they are VERY FEW who do SO MUCH for SO MANY and they protect our way of life. One of my son’s, J, chose to serve and I am simultaneously grateful AND proud of him. What he received in return for his service is he is firmly in the camp of “a man of the world” as his service was overseas on a tropical island. I believe there are many ways to serve and I do not minimize the choices that others make. While some of you might think it a bit corny, I realize that the opportunity to write about what I wish is part of what they defend. I am thankful for that and will remember the next time I disagree with something I heard or read. I hope I will have the patience and wisdom to pause and step back and be thankful that I have the privilege to “hear it” whether I agree with it or not. My resolution for self-improvement will be to ensure I don’t find myself judging who does or doesn’t love the country more which I hope others never see in me as I abhor when I see it in others. I will be content to be grateful that a few of our fellow citizens have chosen to protect the country for all of us and simply graciously accept their gift. Thank you to all Veterans (and you J) so very much. Love Dad.

My favorite restuarant is Quang's on "Eat Street" in Minneapolis. It's Vietnamese food. I order the same thing every time: #301 (Beef Vermiccili Salad) and the #104 (fried egg rolls). It's quite an ordeal to drive into the city to get it, so it's always a special treat. My mouth waters thinking about it! They've been voted "Best Vietnamese Restuarant" more than once with the Mpls/St. Paul magazine. I hear when they make Sea Bass soup, there's a line out the door around the corner!
